PMAC calls for presentations
Gearing up for the third annual supply chain symposium
PMAC and the McMaster eBusiness Research Centre (MeRC) have issued a call for practitioner presentations and academic papers for the Third Annual Symposium on Supply Chain Management. The symposium, sponsored by PMAC, MeRC and the Ontario Research Network for Electronic Commerce (ORNEC), takes place this year at the Wyndham Bristol Place Hotel in Mississauga, Ont., September 28-30, 2005.
The symposium theme–Innovative Collaboration for Competitive Advantage–recognizes that advances in supply chain technological support for e-commerce, process design and management strategies have created an increasingly complex set of administrative, technological, and organizational issues. These must be resolved to achieve and maintain competitive advantage.
The symposium will outline recent research on the most critical of these issues, and discuss solutions leading to competitive advantage adopted by industry leaders. It brings together leading practitioners from the public and private sectors as well as academic researchers, in an exchange of information and experiences that highlight best current practices and innovations in technological products, organization, and management.
In addition to presentations of competitively selected academic papers and practitioner presentations, the program will include keynote addresses by leading supply chain professionals, open, informal roundtable discussions, and a panel discussion.
PMAC encourages its members to consider participation in the symposium, either as a practitioner-presenter or attendee. Association members taking part in past symposia have benefited not just from exposure to leading edge supply chain management theory and practice, but also from the networking opportunities provided.
Objective proposals
Practitioner presentations can only be submitted by practitioners and should be objective in their approach. The symposium will not accept presentations in the form of commercial promotional material for a business or product. To submit a presentation, please provide by e-mail a 500-word (maximum) abstract of your proposed presentation by May 16, 2005. Please include a short presenter bio (maximum 100 words); jpg photo optional.
Submit your abstract to: Doreen DuGray, manager, National Conference and Special Events, Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) National Office, Toronto, Ontario; e-mail: ddugray@pmac.ca
Presentations can be a paper/speech, a slide/PowerPoint presentation, or a combination of the two. Presentation length is 30 minutes followed by 15 minutes for questions.
Topic areas are wide-ranging; typically outlining a best practice case study and/or explaining how an innovative approach has realized significant improvement in the competitive position of an organization.
For suggested topic areas, visit the symposium practitioner presentation web site: http://merc.mcmaster.ca/SCM2005CallPractitioner.html. Your abstract will be reviewed by May 20, 2005, and PMAC will inform you as to whether your topic has been selected for presentation. Prizes will be awarded for the best academic paper and best practitioner paper. The top academic papers will be considered for publication in a leading professional journal. White papers from practitioners are strongly encouraged for possible publication in an industry journal.
