Less energy, more productivity
New imaging devices meet diverse office demands

With the push to a greener office, many buyers are paying closer attention to the environmental features of their document devices. At the same time, they're trying to keep costs and consumables in check.
Vendors are heeding the new demands of the office, and designing printers, multifunctional devices (MFPs) and copiers to deliver the volume and flexibility, while keeping their eco footprint to a minimum.
Canon Canada (Mississauga, Ont.) for instance, recently launched the imageRUNNER C3480 and C3080 series. Energy Star compliant, the imageRUNNER C3480/C3080 series are suited to small business environments and workgroups.
Designed to provide the productivity and innovation of high-volume MFPs for a fraction of the footprint, the devices have print speeds of up to 34/30 pages-per-minute (ppm) in monochrome and up to 30/28 in colour, Canon reports. The fast speeds are achieved with Canon's quick fixing (QF) colour toners that quickly melt and fuse to paper at low temperatures. Business can reduce the time and cost associated with outsourcing projects by leveraging document management tools to create professional documents in house, according to the company. To accommodate different business needs, Canon offers its web connectivity, accelerated paper management, security features and low energy consumption.
Also focused on small workgroups is Oki Data Americas Inc. (Mississauga, Ont.), which recently introduced the C5650 series of A4 digital colour printers. The devices were intended to enhance small workgroup performance with high-definition colour technology, best-in-class speed, media flexibility and duty cycle to produce professional-looking materials, such as reports and presentations.
The series minimizes downtime and increases productivity for a variety of workgroups in the retail, government, finance and insurance industries, according to Oki. The C5650 series boasts a higher duty cycle at 60,000 pages, maximum paper capacity at 930 pages and fastest first page out for colour at 11 seconds.
"With a small business, you often find a lot of multi-tasking. Keeping downtime to a minimum and incorporating the latest technology into everyday workflow is important to support productivity and overall success," said Gus Piccin, general manager of Canadian operations with OKI Data Americas.
The C5650 series includes single pass colour technology for enhanced media handling, allowing small businesses to produce professional looking documents in house and on-demand. It also has an optional second tray and duplex, allowing the C5650 series to grow with demands. Print speeds are 22 ppm for colour and 26 ppm for monochrome. The series will be available this month.
