Some New Low-Price Lasers
Kyocera Mita FS-1020D
The FS-1020D ECOSYS monochrome laser printer from Kyocera Mita comes in with an MSRP of about Cdn$750. The unit offers a 21ppm print speed, and the company says it reduces total cost of ownership and has a small footprint. The printer specs say the first print is generated in under ten seconds, and the per-page cost is about 1.5-cent per page.
Other specs include 600 dpi resolution for graphics and text, a paper capacity of 250 sheets (plus a multipurpose tray that can accommodate another 50 sheets), 16MB standard printer memory, upgradeable to 272MB, and a PowerPC405 266 MHz CPU. More at www.kyoceramita.com.
Lexmark E Series
Lexmarks redesigned E-Series monochrome laser printers include the E232, E232t, E330, E332n, and E332tn models. The E232 and E232t are designed for home and business users, and offer print speeds of up to 22 ppm and an 8.5 second time-to-first-page. The E232 is priced at $299 and the E232t, which includes a second 550-sheet tray to accommodate higher volume printing, is $399.
The E330, E332n and E332tn are designed for the personal or small workgroup market. The E330, priced at $539, offers print speeds of up to 27 ppm and a 200 MHz processor. The Lexmark E332n is priced at $659, has an internal network adapter and is designed for small workgroups. The E332tn includes a second 550-sheet drawer for $799.
All E Series models feature black chassis with silver accents and backlit indigo buttons. They also feature an integrated paper drawer for more reliable paper feeding and space consolidation. They come with a 2,500- or 6,000-page toner cartridge and a long-life photoconductor kit that Lexmark says may never need to be replaced over the life of the printer. More at www.lexmark.com.
Oki C5000 Prices Cut
Oki Data Americas has lowered the estimated street price of its C5000 Series digital colour printers by as much as $200 on some models. The new prices are effective as of the beginning of August and apply to the C5150n, C5200n and the C5400 Series and all its various configurations. Not all models are sub-$1K but the C5150n comes in at Cdn$809.
Oki doesnt call their printers laser, preferring to use its own Digital LED terminology. The entire line uses Okis Single Pass Colour system to generate colour output on a range of media and paper types. The C5150n prints at up to 12 ppm in colour 20 ppm monochrome, at 1200 x 600 dpi. Xerox
Xerox has a number of laser units at the lower end of the price range. At an estimated retail price of Cdn$719 (BD model) or $859 (DN model), the entry-level Xerox Phaser 6100 prints at five ppm in colour and 21 ppm b&w. The 6100 offers two-sided printing, 64MB of standard memory and 600 dpi resolution (1200 in Enhanced Mode). The DN model includes 10/100 Ethernet Networking.
The Phaser 3450 business-class laser comes in three models. All offer 25 ppm print speeds, 266 MHz processor, 32MB RAM (expandable to 160MB and 1200 dpi resolution. The B model starts at an ERP of Cdn$689, the D model starts at Cdn$829 and the networkable DN model starts at $1,029. More at www.xerox.com/office.
Ricoh Aficio Series
Ricoh recently introduced the Aficio CL1000N and CL2000/2000N desktop colour printers. The Aficio CL1000N prints at 31 ppm in b&w and eight ppm in colour, on a range of paper stocks up to 55lb.bond. The CL2000 (for personal use) and CL2000N (for business workgroups) have optional IEEE 802.11b and Bluetooth wireless capability.
