SCL membership on the rise

Richmond Hill, Ont.The Supply Chain & Logistics Association Canada (SCL) saw a 39 per cent overall growth in 2006.
SCL is a non-profit organization of business professionals interested in improving their supply chain and logistics management skills. It now has more than 850 members, who include practitioners, consultants, service providers and professors from the industry, along with senior management, the organization reported.
In its 2006 report, SCL pointed to major milestones such as the establishment of an accreditation program to define education standards in post-secondary schools for supply chain management. The cross-Canada program currently has seven institutions involved.
It also developed curriculum and faculty for a Master's Certificate program delivered by the Schulich School of Business, and will be designing further executive development and supply chain programs with the school.
Also noteworthy were several sole-source research projects undertaken with Industry Canada, on logistics costs; and global supply chain integration and RFID. SCL also conducted a sole-source research project on greenhouse gas emissions reduction for Transport Canada.
The organization will be holding its 40th Supply Chain & Logistics Canada annual conference April 29 to May 1. Topics on the agenda include cross-border issues, risk management, fuel surcharges and the Asia-Pacific gateway.
