Agricore wins IT award for contingency planning
Winnipeg—Agricore United, an agi-business company in Winnipeg, has won a 2006 Finalist Achievement Award from the Canadian Information Productivity Award program.
The awards recognize Canadian organizations' innovative use of technology. In Agricore's case, the company was singled out for designing an innovative but affordable disaster recovery centre, which provide for business continuity without requiring investment in duplicate hardware.
The system conducts an automatic failover of crucial business applications to a secondary location, in the event of a failure at the primary data centre. It would allow the company to continue operating during certain disasters, and it also accommodates the company’s anticipated growth.
By eliminating the previous "cold" recovery site for data and the related upgrades, Agricore has saved more than $200,000 per year.
