Wi-Fi Alliance gets closer to standard

The Wi-Fi Alliance (Austin, Tex.) has announced it will certify interoperability of Wi-Fi products that include baseline features from the developing IEEE 802.11n standard, in the first half of 2007. Full ratification of the standard should occur in the first quarter of 2008.
The announcement from the Wi-Fi Alliance—a global, non-profit industry association—is a significant first step towards the next generation of Wi-Fi products. The 802.11n standard is expected to improve range and throughput of Wi-Fi networks, and ensure more interoperability, the alliance reports.
