Newmarket embarks on energy retrofit
Newmarket, Ont.—The Town of Newmarket, Ont. is teaming up with Honeywell International, a technology and manufacturing company (Morris Township, NJ), for an energy retrofit program.
Once completed, the $1.5-million, nine-year project should save the township $157,000 per year on operating costs. It will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 563 tonnes.
The township will finance the improvements—which include lighting, heating, cooling, ventilation and building control updates—out of the savings generated by the program.
The savings are guaranteed by Honeywell, under an energy performance contract with Newmarket. The contract ensures the work won't affect capital budgets or require additional taxpayer dollars.
