Hy-Drive showcases breakthrough technology
Mississauga, Ont.—Hy-Drive Technologies Ltd. held a media event at its headquarters in Mississauga, Ont. in June, to demonstrate what it calls breakthrough hydrogen-based technology that will "revolutionize" the transportation industry.
The company has developed a hydrogen generating system that works by injecting small amounts of hydrogen gas into the combustion chamber of a regular internal combustion engine.
The process creates an enriched air mixture and a more complete and faster burn of diesel fuel, resulting in reduced emissions, improved fuel efficiency and more engine torque, Hy-Drive reports.
As of June, the company had sold units to 37 truck fleet customers in Canada and the US. It also sold $330,000 in units to Sparta Capital in Australia for installation at several truck fleets.
"We have been working with small to medium sized fleets as our initial target customer group, but are now beginning to attract the attention of some of the major North American truck fleets, as well as interest from numerous countries around the world," said Tom Brown, president and CEO of Hy-Drive.
In April, Hy-Drive sold 20 of its hydrogen generating systems to Mining Technologies International Inc. (MTI), based in Sudbury, Ont. MTI will adapt the technology for use on diesel-powered mining equipment.
"They [Hy-Drive] have an innovative solution for reducing the harmful exhaust emissions that all mining vehicles inherently produce," said Robert Lipic, president and CEO of MTI. "Their simple retrofit package reduces the emissions as part of the natural combustion process instead of just filtering the exhaust. This technology should be readily accepted as it will create a healthier work environment from which everyone can benefit."
The initial order of 20 units was part of a long-term supply agreement with MTI.
