Ontario issues lower-risk RFQs
Toronto--The Ontario government is reporting strong interest from suppliers in six new infrastructure projects. The projects are being managed by Infrastructure Ontario under the government’s Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) program.
The AFP concept strictly governs the planning, financing, and procurement of public infrastructure. It ensures public ownership and accountability, and it also transfers the risk for cost overruns and delays to the private sector. Suppliers are asked to commit to deliver projects on time and on budget.
At this point, the Ontario government has compiled a list of pre-qualified vendors from a request for qualifications (RFQ).
In the next stage of the project, the companies will be invited to respond to a request for proposals, which will be released throughout the summer and fall.
The projects cover mainly expansion and redevelopment of various health centres and the building of a new youth centre. Each project has about four to six pre-qualified contenders.
