We're on the move
While PMAC’s November move to its new offices at 777 Bay Street in Toronto is completed, the migration of the national office and its staff seems symbolic. It comes at a time when both the supply chain management (SCM) profession and PMAC are on the move.
Supply chain management at its senior levels is becoming a demanding and exacting profession. The corporate expectations of the strategic role that senior supply chain professionals must play in creating and sustaining competitive advantage are placing the education of SCM professionals at the forefront.
As noted in this space last month, there are substantive gaps on that front. As Jim Eckler, president and CEO of Progistix-Solutions Inc. said at the Third Annual Supply Chain Symposium in October, there is a troubling lack of education in Canada available in supply chain management. That is especially the case in the education of senior, strategic, supply chain managers, according to PMAC president Robert Dye.
“There is not much room left in leading corporations for purchasing or procurement except at the transactional level. Our research makes it very clear that corporate leaders in Canada, whether private or public, require a whole new skill set from supply chain management professionals. PMAC is responding to the new professional reality with a far-reaching transformation in our accreditation process that will enable us to deliver the professional with the business skills and knowledge that employers demand.”
In 2006 PMAC will be providing details of the transformation of its accreditation program. To stay up to date, please refer to the PMAC web site, www.pmac.ca.
