Chicago: Northstar Aerospace Inc., a Canadian-US aircraft equipment and repair company, has won a US$14-million contract from the US Army Aviation and Missile Command to manufacture transmissions for the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.
The contract comes after the army exercised an earlier option on the equipment under a separate 2006 deal with Northstar.
Northstar is building the transmissions at its Chicago plant, with support from other company operations. Deliveries on the original contract award begin late this year. Deliveries on the optional contract are slated to begin in 2009.
Northstar makes helicopter gears and transmissions, accessory gearbox assemblies, rotorcraft drive systems and other machined and fabricated parts.
In Canada, the company has plants in Milton and Windsor, Ont.
