Expoplast is less than a week away
If you've not yet made plans to visit Expoplast 2008, you could up end missing the most important plastics event in Canada this year. For three days, October 20 through 22, Montreal's Palais des Congrès will be the place to find out about new technologies and market possibilities.
"We have promoted the show and the conference very heavily this time, and it seems to be paying off," says show manager Tom Sockett. "The advance bookings we have are tracking those for previous shows very closely. So we're optimistic about good attendance, despite the economic conditions."
The Expoplast show itself, organised by the Canadian Plastics Industry Association, runs for two days, Monday October 20 and Tuesday, October 21, from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm on the first day, and from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on the second. The APAC conference on composites is on the Tuesday, and the rest of the APAC event is held on Wednesday, October 22, at the Hotel Mortagne. Two parallel sessions, technical and business issues, are being held. The Society of Plastics Engineers' Quebec section is hosting technical sessions on both days of the show. The first day's theme is plastics processing, and the second day is focused on composites. There's also a major display of composite parts made in Quebec on the main show floor. And if you're looking for a party where you can unwind, the Quebec CPIA Gala is being held on the Monday evening, at Hotel Intercontinental. This is when CPIA makes its annual awards to Quebec's leading plastics firms and entrepreneurs, as well as showing what Montreal has to offer in an evening out.

Christmas is still coming
Beset by gloom? Ah, but there's still Christmas, Virginia, and the Society of Plastics Engineers still celebrates it in Ontario.
SPE's Ontario section moved its annual seasonal dinner and dance last year to the Delta Meadowvale Resort and Conference Centre in Mississauga, Ont., when downtown Toronto started getting a little pricey. This has always been the industry's largest Christmas celebration, and the tradition continues this year.
Coordinator Penny Perdis says the George St. Kitts is back again by popular demand, and the usual features such as raffle and door prizes are included. There are still, she adds, hotel rooms available at a reduced price
of $89, as well as a few tables at a group rate.
More information is available from her at pennyperdis@sympatico.ca.

Draw prizes are always a popular item at the SPE Christmas dance.
