OBJECTIVE:

A qualified polymer science graduate with several years of hands on experience in the European and Canadian Plastics Industry is seeking a challenging position in the polymer or related industry.

RELEVANT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

FORMULATION & COMPOUNDING:

  • Responsible for set up, operation and maintenance of various machinery and lab equipment used in compounding such as Buss Ko-Kneader, Banbury, or C.W.Brabender Plasticorder, for in-house compounding of formulations.
  • Experienced with various grades of most thermoplastic resins as well as different grades of PVC, Metallocene resins, polymer blends, additives, fillers/reinforcements and modifiers. In addition experienced in Silane grafting and Moisture Cure technology.

PROCESS/ PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT:

  • Established processing characteristics of material candidates at extrusion , Injection Moulding, chemical cross-linking and expansion stages.
  • Responsible for new product, pilot runs prior to manufacturing, documentation, process optimisation, and issuance of a formal technical report.
  • Engaged and participated in Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) activities with respect to procedures, cost reductions, improvements on products / processes, using advanced statistical concepts (such as DOE, ANOVA, etc), tools and software.

TESTING & TEST METHODS / SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Hands on experience with various lab test equipment such as MFI, Tensile tester, Moisture Analyser, DSC, TGA, Densimeter etc. In addition possess a thorough and in-depth knowledge of various Specifications such as MIL, AMS, UL, CSA, BS and DIN as well as ASTM test methods and those employed in the automotive industry for material evaluation and performance testing.
  • Developed, established and implemented fairly complex in-house test methods unique to the Hot Runner System / Injection Moulding technology such as Streaking, Clarity, discolouration, Vestige, splay marks, manifold heat distribution characterization and manifold balancing (short shots).
  • Experienced in test methods, technical and procedural requirements used in building products, systems and materials as stipulated by Ontario Building Code (OBC) and ICC-ES regulatory requirements.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

  • Designed and implemented feasibility studies using Project Scheduler PS7 and Microsoft Project Management software.
  • Revised work schedules to meet multiple tasks and changing priorities.

QUALITY CONTROL

  • Responsible for assuring that incoming and outgoing product meets the quality requirements by developing and maintaining all quality records and in-process inspection or testing.
  • Responsible for analysis of product defects and non-conformances, developing, implementing and verifying corrective and/or preventative actions.  This includes, but is not limited to, Pareto analysis of defects, reviews of customer concerns and returns, Waivers of Deviation.
  • Evaluated and developed specifications for the existing and future incoming raw materials such as resins and other additives with respect to suitability, consistency and processability..
  • Responsible for visiting customers, resin suppliers, agencies, and universities to obtain information relative to existing products, purchased parts, material selections, or manufacturing processes.
