Wittmann buys blending technology from Mould-tek
Wittmann Canada, formerly Nucon Wittmann, (Markham, Ont.) has bought the blending and loading technology developed by Mould-tek Industries Inc. (Scarborough, Ont.) Some Mould-tek staff are transferring to Wittmann Canada with the purchase of the blending line.
Mould-Tek will continue to make the M-Tek line at its Scarborough plant until Wittmann merges production with its other activities in a new facility in the Greater Toronto area.
It will continue to represent injection moulding machines from Japan's Kawaguchi and China's Chen Hsong, plus other companies' auxiliary equipment. Mould-tek invested considerable money and expertise in developing its HRB system for blending materials, which can perform volumetric and gravitational control of up to eight materials.
However it lacks the global marketing reach of the Austrian-based Wittmann organisation to promote the system. Nucon Wittmann, on the other hand, has not had blending technology before, though it offers an extensive range of other types of auxiliary systems.
"We will be able to develop the blenders and materials handling equipment further as part of our total auxiliary solution using our in-house controls capabilities," said Rob Miller, president of Wittmann Canada. "We have been a significant player in the systems market for many years but never had our own blenders to offer our customers. With our own blenders we now have a key piece that we were missing as a manufacturer, and the ability to fully integrate the complete system using a single controls platform."

Visiting the K show
It's now only five months until K 2007. That might seem a long time, but most hotels in and around Dusseldorf are filling up or already filled, and if you're thinking of going, now's the time to book.
Plastics in Canada has teamed up with Montreal's Carlson Wagonlit Travel to offer a six-night package that includes a four-day ticket to the show itself and first-class train tickets to and from the Dusseldorf fairground. The trip departs on October 22, and returns on October 19.
Carlson Wagonlit has booked a block of rooms at the five-star Marriott Cologne Hotel.
While Cologne might seem a long way out of town, show veterans will tell you that the train trip is quicker and easier than getting to the show from many hotels in Dusseldorf itself. The hotel is just two blocks from the main train station in Cologne, and the train journey is 40 minutes, with no need to find taxis or figure out a subway system in a foreign language. The trip costs $3,450 based on double occupancy, and $4,450 for single occupancy.
Carlson Wagonlit Travel can be reached at 888-574-6907, or ahoule@voyageslm.ca.
For those who prefer to make their own way to Dusseldorf, the Canadian German Chamber of Commerce in Toronto, which represents Messe Dusseldorf, has show tickets available at $74 per day, three-day passes at $162, five-day passes at $264, and eight-day passes at $354. Information is available from Stefan Egge at the Chamber, at 416-598-1524, or messeduesseldorf@germanchamber.ca.
K 2007 runs from October 24 through October 31. This year, it has 2,900 exhibitors from around the world, and anticipates 230,000 visitors.

Information session offered on access to legislation
The Canadian Plastics Industry Association is hosting an information session on regulatory compliance in the Atlantic region, and the simplification of access to legislation, on June 20. The location is Highland Suite No. 9 of the World Trade & Convention Centre in Halifax.
Representatives from the Ontario Ministry of Labour, where a similar initiative on access has been adopted, will discuss their experience. The Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour, NSBI, BNB, ACOA, as well as other NS, New Brunswick and other Atlantic government officials will be in attendance.
According to Duncan Cross, Atlantic director & director of the CPIA's Composites Council, the proposed project would simplify access to legislative and regulatory demands on all plastics and composites businesses. Attendees can contact him at dcross@cpia.ca.

Conair, Sepro form joint venture
France's Sepro Robotique and Conair (Pittsburgh, Pa.) are forming Sepro America, a joint-venture company to market robots and automation solutions in the US and Canada. The two companies have had an alliance since the 1980s.
Each of the parents will own 50 per cent of the new company, which will be based in the
Conair headquarters building in Pittsburgh. Jean Michel Renaudeau, managing director of Sepro, will be CEO of Sepro America.
The joint venture becomes official on August 6, 2007, although the transition process will begin immediately. All existing contracts with Conair will be transferred to and fulfilled by Sepro America. Conair sales representatives are expected to continue selling the Sepro line, which will continue to be supported by round-the-clock availability of regional service technicians.
"Sepro already has a solid customer base in the North American market," added Jim Healy, Conair's vice-president for automation, who becomes vice-president, sales & marketing, with Sepro America. "Sepro recently introduced the Axess range of servo pick-and-place robots, designed for economy and user-friendliness. The new Sepro 4050 robot platform, built to serve injection-moulding machines as large as 2500 tons, is modular so it can be specified with longer stroke lengths and heavier payload capacity."

Sepro America's executive team (L to R): Marcus Klaputec,
vice-president sales & service, Sepro America; Chris Keller,
president & COO of Conair; Jean-Michel Renaudeau,
