Conair and Hamilton Avtec Team Up To Deliver Equipment, Service in Canada
To provide Canadian processors with advanced processing solutions, combining the world's top brand of auxiliary equipment with dedicated local service, Conair has joined together with Hamilton Avtec, one of the most respected suppliers to Canada's plastics industry. The new team begins serving customers in September, 2007.
"This is an important step for us to better meet the requirements of Canadian processors," said Chris Keller, Conair president. "We are now able to supply a full line of auxiliary equipment, the best technology, and the fastest service and support available to Canadian processors."
Hamilton Avtec will stock popular models of Conair equipment in their modern Mississauga, Ontario, manufacturing facility. This means quick delivery of equipment that is customized to the special requirements of Canadian processors. Hamilton, with more than 25 employees, will continue to deliver localized, specialized support in the fields of installation, service, parts, engineering and manufacturing, along with Conair experience, quality and technical superiority.
"This move is in line with our 40 year commitment to the Canadian plastics industry," commented Hamilton Avtec President Richard Hamilton. "Shifting to Conair equipment means we now have the full breadth of auxiliaries that just happen to be the best quality and the latest technology available. We now have the resources, people and variety of equipment to help our plastics processing customers promptly and effectively. You will now find the engineering, manufacturing and field service assistance needed to solve even your toughest productivity problems economically." Both companies are well-known industry names with long histories of serving processors in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1956, Conair supplies loaders and material handling equipment, dryers, blenders, granulators, heat-transfer systems and temperature-control equipment, as well as downstream extrusion systems for pipe, profiles and tubing. Headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, Conair serves thousands of customers around the world. Hamilton Avtec has been in business since 1965, developing, manufacturing, distributing and supporting a wide range of plastic material conveying, blending and conditioning machinery. For Conair equipment and support, anywhere in Canada, customers can call Hamilton Avtec directly at 905-568-1133, or call Conair at 412-312-6000.

Tooling federation exhibiting at EuroMold
The Canadian Machine Tool, Die & Mould Federation will have a presence at the EuroMold show that includes a rotating exhibit area, plus a literature/poster display area in the information booth. EuroMold, held at the Exhibition Centre in Frankfurt, Germany, from December 5 to 8, is the world's leading trade show for the TDM sector and is expected to attract approximately 60,000 visitors and about 1600 exhibitors.
Negotiations are under way for a well-positioned booth exceeding 12 square metres, with one rotating exhibit area and an information/literature display section. The Federation will promote the resources and capabilities of the Canadian TDM sector and offer a resource for individual companies wanting to develop sales and distribution at this global trade event.
Companies can participate as rotating exhibitors on the booth, provide literature for distribution by booth staff, and/or provide a poster for display on the booth. The maximum poster size is 24x36 in. Participants must manufacture product in Canada containing not less than 60 per cent Canadian content based on FOB factory price.
Services available include overall project management; a fully furnished turnkey rotating exhibit area; translator and/or association staff on hand during the show, and a clearly visible Canadian identity on the booth. Professional exhibiting services are offered through an official show contractor, including design, construction, on-site assembling and dismantling of the pavilion.
The allocation of days will take place October 30, 2007. For further information, contact Sally Damstra of the CPIA, at sdamstra@cpia.ca, or 905-678-7748, ext. 280.

Tech Blend adds extra space
Tech Blend and Co. LP (St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que.), a producer of black concentrates for thermoplastics, has announced a $2.5-million expansion of its facilities. An additional 60,000 sq ft extension to its current plant will be constructed, mainly for warehousing and distribution purposes. Construction is slated to be completed by the end of 2007.
"We didn't have sufficient warehousing space so we have been using outside warehouses," says director of sales Kevin Greene. "We couldn't even receive all the new materials we need properly. We are finally at the volumes where we can justify this expansion."
"The new building incorporates the latest state of the art technologies for energy recovery and conservation of both the existing plant and new building" adds Manouk Djoukhadjian, president and CEO. "This significant investment was made to further improve our customer services and meet the needs of our growing business in North America and other parts of the world where we have established business relations."
Tech Blend claims to be the largest Canadian manufacturer of black concentrates for the thermoplastics market. Its markets include pipe, films, agricultural and construction films, geo-membranes, automotive, packaging, material handling and storage.
The company opened in 1999. It is an ISO 9001 certified company.

A US federal advisory panel has found no strong evidence of health hazards from bisphenol A, a feedstock for polycarbonate. Some research links the chemical to reproductive abnormalities and other health problems in animals, but the National Toxicology Program's expert panel has found little if any reason for concern, with possible exception of developing foetuses and young children. The NTP, a division of the National Institutes of Health, will review the findings and open them for public comment before making a final determination.
