Physik Instrumente L.P. has introduced its P-876 line of flexible piezo composite patch transducers, which can function as an actuator, sensor or energy source and can be applied to curved surfaces.
They can tolerating bending radii as low as 20 mm and are manufactured by placing a piezo-ceramic foil between two conductive films, all embedded in a ductile composite-polymer structure. The design ensures reliability and high resistance to damage, and wear and failure rates are low, as the solid-state actuators contain no moving parts. These patch transducers combine the well-known functionality of piezoceramic materials as high-precision, high-dynamics sensors and actuators. Used as bender actuators, they allow high deflection of up to 0.8 mm with high force and precision.
