Triad Semiconductor outsources to Canada

January 28, 2008

Triad Semiconductor Inc., a supplier of via-configurable mixed-signal ASICs (VCA), has opened its first subsidiary—Triad MDG (Montréal Design Group) Inc.—in Laval, Que., a move facilitated by a Montréal organization tasked with attracting foreign investment to the city. This move expands Triad's design operations and offers both advanced internal analog intellectual property (IP) development and design, as well as external sales and application engineering support for the Canadian market.

Triad Semiconductor CEO Lynn Hayden said, “Having this Canadian subsidiary extends our support base and enables Triad to bring our cost-effective, high-performance mixed-signal ASIC designs to more companies involved in medical, industrial, communications, sensor and other applications.”

Hayden said Triad examined all their options, including offshore outsourcing and low-cost engineers, but had heard there were issues with communication and time zones, experience and traditions. He said the company’s best option was to stay close to home, which led them to Montreal area—with the help of Montréal International, an organization mandated to attract foreign investment, international organizations and strategic workers.

Montréal International provided assistance to Triad during the key stages of its set-up project and will continue to help the company expand its activities in Greater Montréal.
