Engineers Canada appoints CEO

March 26, 2008

Chantal Guay

Engineers Canada announced the appointment of Chantal Guay, Eng., M.Env., as CEO, replacing Marie Lemay, P.Eng., who recently accepted the position of chief executive officer of the National Capital Commission. The organization says Guay will further advance Engineers Canada's work on national initiatives and issues including the launch of the National Round Table on Sustainable Infrastructure, research on the vulnerability of Canada's public infrastructure to extreme climatic events, immigration and foreign credential recognition and labour mobility.

"I look forward to continuing my work at Engineers Canada and building on the organization's recent successes," Guay said. "My strong technical background and experience, in combination with my enthusiasm and dedication to everything I undertake, will enable me to continue building on Marie Lemay's excellent work."

Guay has over 14 years of municipal and office management experience, including the startup and growth of an environmental engineering consulting firm, and the planning, development and implementation of projects geared towards the redevelopment of brownfields in Montreal. She also served as a member of Engineers Canada's executive, awards and research committees.

"I am a strong believer in the practice of sound engineering and giving back to my profession," Guay added. "Engineers have significantly contributed to the well-being and wealth of Canadian society, and will be even more important as we face additional issues related to infrastructure renewal and adapting to climate change. Engineers Canada has been a catalyst in bringing these and other issues to the forefront and will continue to work with all stakeholders to identify the best solutions."

A member of the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec, Guay has served on the Board of Directors and as the chair of the organization's enforcement committee. She is fluently bilingual and has a master's of environment from the Universite de Sherbrooke. Engineers Canada is the business name of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers and is the national organization of the 12 provincial and territorial associations/ordre that regulate the practice of engineering in Canada and license the country's more than 160,000 professional engineers.
