Voting open for 2007 Autodesk Inventor of the Year

January 10, 2008

Michael Piersa and a team of college students used Inventor to create a digital prototype of their "Wheelchair for the 21st Century".

Autodesk, Inc. has begun the official Inventor of the Year voting process. Those wishing to cast a ballot can choose which of their favourite 2007 Inventor of the Month recipients should be named Inventor of the Year.

The Inventor of the Month with the highest community rating will be presented with the title Inventor of the Year. Voting will wrap up on Friday, January 18 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The Inventor of the Year winner will be announced at the end of January 2008.

Contenders include:

January 2007 - Marine Advanced Research used Inventor software to develop the WAM-V: the Wave Adaptive Modular Vessel, a new class of sea going vessel.

February 2007 - Rapiscan Systems, a supplier of security inspection technology, uses Inventor to create digital prototypes of its products.

March 2007 - BigToys, Inc. uses Inventor to develop its environmentally friendly playground equipment.

April 2007 - Famed Zywiec, the largest producer of medical equipment in Poland, uses Inventor to design and manufacture their products with minimal waste.

May 2007 - Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) is a research facility that allows scientists to use X-ray and ultraviolet light to investigate the atomic and molecular structure of various materials. The lab relies on Inventor to design the equipment required for these scientific applications.

June 2007 - Michael Piersa and a team of college students used Inventor to create a digital prototype of their "Wheelchair for the 21st Century".

July 2007 - Jayco, a designer and manufacturer of HMIs, used Inventor to package a new type of mobile electronic flightdeck for one of its aviation customers.

August 2007 - Magic Wheels used Inventor to created a two-gear wheel system that makes it easier for rear-push wheelchair users to ascend and descend hills, or navigate rough and uneven surfaces.

September 2007 - SkidTek is using Inventor software to develop a high-purity modular processing system for the pharmaceutical industry.

October 2007 - HTC Sweden uses Inventor to develop machines for grinding and polishing stone floors, which use a diamond-based grinding system.

November 2007 - Inventor helps Franke, a manufacturer of foodservice systems, increase the development cycle speed for its new products by reducing the need for physical prototypes.

December 2007 - Craftsmen Industries uses Inventor to create mobile displays, exhibit trailers and custom vehicles for advertisements on wheels.

Alas, there are no Canadian companies to steal the show as Bosch Rexroth Canada did last year, so our money will have to be on one of the wheelchair innovations or Marine Advanced Research.
