CIMdata names CAM software leaders
July 9, 2007 |
Last month, CIMdata named the worldwide CAM market leaders for 2006 in the latest version of its NC Software and Related Services Market Assessment Report. According to the report, the CAM market is still highly fragmented and competitive even with recent consolidations. Consequently, no single company has emerged as the dominant player in the market. In total, CIMdata tracks around 50 CAM vendors to compile its report.
2006 Market Share of the Largest NC Vendors
at the Vendor Level
The company broke up its analysis of leading CAM providers based on two different criteria: those with the highest total revenues generated from CAM software sales and those with the most shipped and installed industrial seats. In other words, it lists who made the most money and who gained the most users.
On a worldwide total revenues basis, CIMdata pegged Dassault Systèmes as the market leader on the basis of both vendor revenues received and end user payments, followed closely by UGS PLM Solutions. Together, the two hold a combined market share of 27.3 percent. The rest of the Top 10 providers include PTC, Delcam, Planit Holdings, NDES(formerly Hitachi Zosen Systems), Tebis Software, Missler Software, CNC Software and Vero International, who collectively hold market share of 39.3 percent. The remainder of the vendors had a combined market share of 33.4 percent.
In terms of units shipped for 2006, Planit Holdings finished first followed by CNC Software, UGS PLM Solutions, PTC and Delcam. UGS, PTC and Planit were the only three to appear in the Top 5 of both market leader lists.
Planit was also named the most rapidly growing vendor by CIMdata, followed by Delcam, SolidCAM and Vero International, who all had revenue growth in excess of 30 percent in 2006. The report does point out that Planit, Delcam and Vero's growth numbers were significantly impacted by acquisitions, adding that SolidCAM has been the consistent growth leader with annual growth rates in the 30 percent range over the past five years.
For 2007, CIMdata predicts the five most rapidly growing companies will be SolidCAM, TekSoft, Gibbs, OPEN MIND and Delcam.
