Silicone surfactants
|

Momentive Performance Materials has introduced what it calls “breakthrough additives” its CoatOSil family of products. These include new CoatOSil 1220 and CoatOSil 1221 silicone surfactants for improved flow, leveling and wetting in coating formulations, CoatOSil MP pretreatment system for metal substrates, and CoatOSil 2287 silane for enhancement of the physical properties of waterborne latexes.

Martin Wusik, global marketing manager for Coatings Additives for Momentive notes in a press release for the recent American Coatings Show (ACS) that the products are “excellent candidates for manufacturers across a number of industries to consider for their performance challenges, when the goal is to achieve greater design freedom and deliver superior performance in the end product.

CoatOSil 1220 and CoatOSil 1221 surfactants are two new wetting agents that are candidates for difficult-to-wet substrates. The CoatOSil MP system may also be used to enhance paint adhesion to metal substrates while potentially providing outstanding corrosion protection. Users of waterborne coatings may improve adhesion and crosslinking performance by leveraging CoatOSil 2287 silane.

CoatOSil 1220 and CoatOSil 1221 surfactants can provide excellent superwetting properties in waterborne coatings for spray applications, high speed roll applications and hard to wet surfaces, including possible applications such as plastic films and plastic components, wood coatings, glass coatings and coatings applied to contaminated or oily metal surfaces.

CoatOSil MP metal pretreatment system is a two-component aqueous pretreatment system for possible use with aluminum, cold rolled steel and hot dip galvanized steel substrates. A water-based nanoscale pretreatment technology, it is produced without chromium and phosphate and can help promote paint adhesion and corrosion resistance in a variety of metal applications. CoatOSil 2287 silane can provide shelf-stable non-yellowing crosslinking performance that enhances the properties of waterborne dispersion polymers such as polyurethane and acrylic latexes.
