UV Robotics to develop US military coating technology
May 30, 2008|
UV Robotics, LLC, Cleveland, OH, has been selected by SAIC and the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH, to help develop the use of UV curable powder coatings for repainting military aircraft and support vehicles. The US armed forces, seeking novel ways to reduce the "dry-to-fly" time associated with traditional coatings, have begun to experiment with rapid-cure UV coating technology.
"We are proud to have been asked by SAIC and the AFRL to participate in this effort," says UV Robotics President, Paul Mills. "It helps improve our military's readiness and capability as well as advancing robotic cure and UV powder technology for other applications."
The project is funded through a US Department of Defense Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (DoD ESTCP) award that began in 2008 and is slated to continue through 2010.
