The Alberta Recycling Management Authority has announced that the province's new paint recycling program will be up and running on April 1, 2008. The program will be operated with the assistance of Product Care, the paint industry product stewardship organization that administers paint recycling programs in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia.
The paint products included in the Alberta program will be the same as for existing Product Care programs. The advance disposal surcharge (ADS) fees will be as follows:
Product and size ADS
Aerosols $0.10 per container
100 ml to 250 ml $0.10
251 ml to 1 litre $0.25
1.1 litre to 4 litres $0.50
5 litres to 23 litres $1.00
Effective April 1, all suppliers providing designated paint products in or into Alberta will be required to register for the program with Alberta Recycling. A registration package will be available through Alberta Recycling by mid February.
