DuPont CoatingSolutions, Burlington, ON, launched its Alesta powder coatings line in Canada with two evenings of an information and technology session held at the Mississauga Convention Centre in Mississauga, ON. Representatives of DuPont invited members of the finishing and manufacturing sectors to a dinner to hear a presentation on DuPont's businesses given by Wade Robinson, DuPont's vice president of sales and marketing for the Americas. According to Donald Carmichael, DuPont Canada's business development manager for powder coatings, the company is well established in Canada in liquid coatings and electrocoat, but has not penetrated the Canadian powder coatings market until now. �It's a big market here that we've been basically ignoring as a company so we needed to really launch what's a fairly big business in the US,� he says. The company has hired a Canadian sales force for the line and developed a new distribution network in an effort to attract new business among job coaters. �We've got the breadth of product line and colour matching capability that we can respond to that kind of market and do it quickly,� says Carmichael.
