Paint demand in Argentina to grow 7% annually through 2012
May 6, 2008|
Paint demand in Argentina has been estimated at 265,000 tonnes in 2007, with annual growth of nearly seven per cent expected to add over 100,000 tonnes of additional demand by 2012, according to a new study of the Argentinean paint industry by Information Research (IRL), London, United Kingdom. The main driver is the construction sector, which is stimulating demand for decorative, protective, wood and general industrial coatings. Demand from state construction projects tends to favour the more economical segments of the decorative sector. However, rising affordability for consumers in South America's second largest economy is driving demand for quality paints, says the study.
The automotive industry forms the other main driver of demand, both at the OEM stage and in terms of refinishes as the national car fleet grows in size. The re-emergence of Fiat as a producer in Argentina is expected to help boost consumption in the automotive OEM segment. The automotive industry in Argentina is trailing in terms of finishing chemistry, but offers double-digit growth prospects while it serves a combination of domestic and export demand.
