Toronto-based book and catalogue printing specialist, Webcom, has commited itself to shifting its paper usage towards more recycled and sustainable sourced products. To enhance its efforts the company introduced an FSC-certified 100% recycled newsprint grade to its eco-friendly Legacy line, offering the new grade at price parity with virgin fibre grades.
"The introduction of Legacy Standard News 100% to our inventory of environmental paper is significant for two reasons. One, for the FSC certification and secondly, for the cost benefit to our customers who publish directories and catalogues" states Mike Collinge, president and CEO at Webcom in a statement.
The Legacy Standard News 100% recycled is the first newsprint grade in North America to be certified by FSC, according to the company. The new paper contains 85% post-consumer waste, is process chlorine-free and qualifies as an Ancient Forest Friendly paper as well as being FSC-certified.
Webcom's internal environmental policy, established this year, set a target of 40% usage of recycled paper by 2012, and 12% within the first 12 months. A push on the new stock is expected to lift their use to a level of 14% recycled content overall by the end of this year.
