Fujifilm will use drupa to introduce a high-speed sheetfed inkjet digital press printing on sheets up to 20 x 28 inches (720mm x 520mm). Developed by Fuji Xerox Co., the new press, labeled the Jet Press 720, incorporates a new inkjet head technology from Fujifilm Dimatix, developer of the Specta inkjet printheads . The new-generation piezoelectric drop-on-demand print head technology for this single-pass high-speed jetting is called SAMBA . Manufactured using MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) fabrication, the densely packed print heads enable 1,200 dpi, jetting at up to 100,000 cycles/second (100 kHz) with drop volumes of 0.1, 1.0 and 2.0 picoliters.
The inkjet press, using water-based inks that will be suitable for a variety of coated papers, will print approximately 180 letter-size pages per minute .
