  • German press manufacturers manroland and KBA reported weaker sales in the first half of 2008 compared with the same period in 2007. manroland's revenue fell 12 percent in the first half of the year, and KBA reported a drop of 17.5 percent in sales. As reported earlier this month, Heidelberg sales in the first three months (April 1 to June 30) were down 11.4 percent. In Japan, Komori announced a drop in first quarter sales (April through June) of 18 percent.
  • EPG (Essex Products Group), colour control systems experts, has signed an agreement to purchase GRIPdigital, Inc., maker of colour measurement products.
  • Presstek, Inc. has announced that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has ordered that Spicers Paper, Inc. in the U.S. be added to a pending action before the ITC, regarding Presstek's claim that Israeli printing plate manufacturer VIM Technologies is infringing on Presstek's U.S. Patents and registered trademark. Presstek is suing two other U.S. based distributors of VIM products and Toronto-based AteCe Canada.
  • www.pulpwatch.org is a new website launched by independent organizations to evaluate the environmental rating of pulp and paper mills around the world.
