  • Domino Printing Sciences has acquired the air cleaning business of Montreal-based PAT Technology Systems Inc. for $2.1 million. PAT was purchased through Domino's wholly-owned subsidiary, Purex North America Ltd. and will be integrated with Purex’s existing fume extraction business. Wayne Baird, co-founder and CEO of PAT Technology will manage the combined business in Quebec.
  • Flint Group is acquiring anti-set-off spray powder manufacturer Russell-Webb Ltd of the UK. The business will be integrated into Day International, Flint Group’s press room consumables division.
    The Coatings Division of Russell-Webb will remain an independent company, RW Coatings Ltd.
  • EFI will acquire the remaining portion of Raster Printers it does not already own for around US$3 million plus contingencies. Raster Printers develops Daytona UV wide format printers targeting mid-range display graphics. Once the deal is closed, the products will be marketed under the EFI Rastek brand.

  • In a preliminary quarterly report, Heidelberg announced its fiscal Q2 sales (July 1 to September 30).) will range between 800 and 820 million Euro, down 10% from the same period last year. Second quarter EBIT will amount to a loss of 20 million Euro, and additional restructuring costs could add up to another 20 million Euro on the negative side. Plus, a new collective labour agreement may lead to further provisions of up to 30 million Euro. In all, free cash-flow in second quarter will fall to minus 70 to minus 90 million Euro, attributed mostly to lower sales volume.
  • Domtar Corp. announced that John Williams will replace Raymond Royer as president and CEO, effective January 1, 2009.
    Williams has been president of SCA Packaging Europe since 2005. He will relocate from Brussels, Belgium to Montreal. Royer is retiring after 12 years as CEO.
  • Punch Graphix has appointed Marc Raad as the manager of its Canadian operations, responsible for direct sales of Xeikon digital colour printing solutions and managing the distribution channel for basysPrint CtP systems.
  • EskoArtwork has appointed Mark Quinlan as president of its North American operations. Quinlan's background includes a 30-year career at NCR Corp. Other appointments include Dennis Mehta as vice president market development for commercial printing and Don Skenderian as vp business development for CAD and digital converting business.
  • DuPont has published environmental Life Cycle Assessment studies, one comparing the environmental footprints of flexographic printing to gravure printing, and the other comparing thermal platemaking to solvent platemaking for flexography. The reports are available at http://www.cyrel.com.
