  • Flint Group has announced price increases and surcharges on all packaging and commercial inks sold in North America, effective on all products billed on or after July 21, 2008. Price increases range from 4% for water-based inks (colours and blacks) to 6% for sheetfed paste inks and energy curable products and 7% for solvent liquid blacks and all solvent and water whites. The surcharges will be 10-cents per pound for all solvent, energy curable and paste products, or 6-cents per pound for water-based products.

  • Agfa has named ND Graphics its exclusive national dealer in Canada for its family of Anapurna wide-format inkjet products.

  • Norampac, a division of Cascades Canada, is closing its Toronto-area boxboard mill indefinitely, affecting around 140 employees. According to Marc-André Dépin, Norampac president and CEO, the move was made to "mitigate" rising labour, fibre and energy costs.
  • manroland North America has named Michael Mugavero as vice president of sales for manroland Canada Inc. (in addition to his roles as vp sales Eastern U.S.). He replaces Paul Tasker (formerly general manager MAN Roland Canada), who has moved to Spicers Canada.
  • Domtar Distribution Group - Buntin Reid Paper is now triple certified, with FSC, PEFC and SFI chain-of-custody certifications.
  • KBA North America's corporate headquarters is moving from Williston, Vermont to Dallas, Texas by the summer of 2009. The relocation will unite its sheetfed and web divisions under one roof along with the sales, service and parts departments as well as the corporate demonstration center.
  • HP is re-organizing its printer operation from five to three divisions. HP's laser-jet and commercial printer operations will form one unit, inkjet and consumer supplies operations create the second, with signage, wide format and professional photography making up the third unit.
  • Sun Chemical North America is implementing an energy/material surcharge on inks effective July 14. A 10-cent-per-pound surcharge will be applied to news inks, directory inks, coldest, heatset, publication gravure, solvent packaging, and energy curing inks. Water packaging inks will be subjected to a six-cent-per-pound surcharge Sun Chemical Corp.'s performance pigments division increased its global pigment prices by 10 to 30 percent effective July 1, citing a spike in raw material, energy and transportation costs.
  • EFI has invested in Jettable, an Israel-based inkjet technology company specializing in digital printing onto ceramic substrates.
