China has become an unlikely source for the largest Bible production facility in the world, according to a recent article it the Los Angeles Times. The Nanjing Amity Printing Co., China's only sanctioned Bible printer (about 500 employees), has printed over 50 million copies of the Good Book in 75 languages (printing about 12 million copies a year), exporting to some 60 countries.
The article suggests that Amity's Bibles sell for as low as $1.35 for a pocket-book size edition and $2.10 for a hardcover, with all proceeds going to the company's charity arm to fund social programs for the local rural poor.
