On July 7, Frank McPherson, an outspoken and well-recognized evangelist of digital and personalized variable data printing, celebrated 50 years in the commercial printing industry.
McPherson, president of Custom Data Imaging Corporation (CDIC) in Markham, Ontario, was born in Paisley, Scotland and is a graduate of the City and Guilds Institute of London's Graphic Arts. He began his career as an apprentice compositor and over the years has worked at a variety of print shops. In 1999, McPherson and his wife Sylvia founded CDIC. I recall visiting their first location, where they had installed a cluster-printing set-up with two colour and three black-and-white Minolta copier/printers.
Frank's drive for knowledge and understanding of data-driven direct marketing initiatives using 1-to-1 printing set the foundation for him to become an experienced, hands-on authority and a resource for many of his peers. His straight-forward approach and willingness to share his opinions with an audience has made him a much sought after speaker at industry conferences and events. He tells it like it is.
Looking forward to hearing from Frank for another 50 years.
