CPIA Announces Award Winners

In a lead up to Strategy 08, the national print conference for companies of all sizes being held this year in Halifax (September 18-20), the Canadian Printing Industries Association (CPIA) proudly released the names of its key award winners for 2008. Honourary life memberships for outstanding achievement and commitment to the industry will be presented to both Don Gain, president & CEO of Harmony Printing in Toronto and Remi Marcoux, executive chairman of the board of Transcontinental.

Gain is a past chairman of CPIA and currently chairs of the board of trustees of the Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship Trust Fund. Marcoux, founder of Montreal-based Transcontinental (the sixth largest printer in North America) is an officer of the National Order of Quebec and a Member of the Order of Canada. CPIA�s Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Dave Potje, a partner of Twin City Dwyer Printing in Kitchener, Ontario for his long-standing service at all levels of the association and the industry.

The CPIA will also recognize five individuals, nominated by their respective regions, with Awards of Merit: Kris Bovay of Pacific Bindery in Vancouver; Mike McInnes of Transcontinental in Brampton, Ontario; Graham Thompson from Vertex Graphic and Business Equipment in Vancouver; Cyndie Crysler of M�ller Martini Canada; and Brian Ellis from Heidelberg Canada.

This year will also mark the second CPIA Young Printer Award, recognizing an up-and coming individual�35-years-of-age or younger�who demonstrates potential through leadership, dedication, attitude and outstanding work. Naming of the Young Printer Award and presentation of all the other awards will take place at a gala dinner September 20, in Halifax, closing out the Strategy 08 conference.
