  • Heidelberg has acquired Hi-Tech Coatings (based in the UK and the Netherlands). Hi-Tech develops primarily water- and UV-based coatings. The new coating products will fall under the Saphira brand.

  • Flint Group North America's publication inks division announces price increases ranging from 10% to 12% for all publication inks effective June 1.
  • Xerox introduced the Automated Colour Quality Suite Press Matching System for iGen3 90 and 110 models. The upgrade integrates an in-line spectrophotometer in the paper path enabling faster automated press set up, improved colour stability and automated Pantone matching. The system has a Canadian list price of $25,000.
  • Presstek is introducing a UV curing option for the Presstek 52DI and 34DI presses enabling the use of waterless UV inks instant drying of sheets at delivery.
  • AbitibiBowater has introduced an uncoated freesheet substitute for the commercial market, ECOPAQUE, the first new product from the combined company.
  • Epson enters the outdoor commercial printing market with the 64-inch roll-to-roll Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 solvent inkjet printer. The eight-colour printer runs at speeds up to 340 sq. ft. per hour.
  • Gandinnovations newest UV flatbed inkjet printer, the NanoJet, delivers high resolution 800 dpi output on sheets up to 4 x 8 feet, at up to 220 sq. ft. per hour.
  • QuadTech, Inc. has purchased Vigitek, an Ireland-based manufacturer of print inspection technology. The acquisition brings together QuadTech's register guidance system with print defect detection technology for all types of printing processes, web and sheetfed.
